FAQs

I am interested in starting an apprenticeship or pre-apprenticeship program. How do I get started?

Please contact our outreach advisor at gtinfo@seattlecolleges.edu

How are apprenticeship programs different from other certification programs at South Seattle College?

An apprenticeship is a job in an industry that allows individuals to earn while they learn a trade. Typically, apprentices work full time in their trade while also attending academic classes/related supplemental instruction through South Seattle College.

How are pre-apprenticeship programs different from apprenticeship programs?

Pre-Apprenticeship programs are bridge programs to apprenticeships and other jobs in the construction trades, manufacturing industry and more. These programs are designed to prepare individuals for entry into apprenticeship programs by providing foundational skills, math instruction, technical skills training, job readiness instruction, safety training and certifications, and exposure to specific trades.

I am interested in doing the electrician program. Who do I contact?

We have 3 different apprenticeships programs that offer electrician training. Please review our flyer and contact them individually.

What is the wait time for the Electrician apprenticeship? I hope to start soon.

Depending upon the program and the trade itself, there can be up to a 2 to 3 year waiting period before you can start the apprenticeship There might be some trades that have a shorter waiting period. So it’s important to talk with the staff of the program that you are interested in before applying about what the qualifications are and how long you might expect to wait to participate in the hiring process.

I am on the waiting list for an apprenticeship program. Can I start the enrollment process at the college?

Enrollment in academics or related supplemental instruction is contingent upon acceptance into an apprenticeship program. We work closely with the apprenticeship program, and we will enroll you once the apprenticeship program has completed your intake process.

I’d like to become an apprentice but am concerned that I might need more math classes and/or basic skills training to be competitive in the hiring process. Do you have any suggestions for what I might do to get hired as an apprentice?

A good way to improve your basic skills and increase your chances of being hired as an apprentice is to participate in a pre-apprenticeship program. To learn more about pre-apprenticeship at Georgetown, please go (link here).
