Labor Center Statement on Racial Justice
We join those across the world united in sadness and outrage over the recent killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and others killed by police brutality and racist violence before and since. We stand with the Black activists in their demands for an end to racist policies, practices, and ideas that have been part of American history since the beginning.
Whether racism results in police violence, inadequate health care or educational opportunities, environmental exposures, or the school to prison pipeline—these are workers’ rights issues. Workers are whole human beings whose lives go beyond their workplace and whose work lives are deeply affected by what happens in their communities. For more information, see the WA State Labor Council’s Race and Labor guide.
We will continue to work together to create and sustain a labor movement with unwavering commitment to racial justice and the rights and well-being of all workers, including Black workers.
We are committed to using our resources to support all those who fight for economic and racial justice and to advance these goals. Labor groups and organizations play an essential role in this struggle. We dedicate ourselves to this critical work.
In Solidarity,
The Labor Center Team
